Matthew documented the very words of Christ (Matthew 28:19) and…

Matthew documented the very words of Christ (Matthew 28:19) and stood behind Peter as he preached at Pentecost (see Acts 2:14). The question, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?” was directed to all the Apostles (see Acts 2:37). If Peter had given an incorrect answer to the crowd regarding the baptismal formula (Acts 2:38), Matthew would have corrected Peter on the spot! Note that the Apostles’ united response to the convicted crowd on the day of Pentecost was not today’s traditional triune baptismal formula, but only the name of one person: Jesus Christ (see Acts 2:38; 8:16; 10:48; 19:5; see also Galatians 3:27 and Romans 6:3).
